Basia Ruta – Principal, Eastern Ontario & Gatineau
With a broad based career spanning over 33 years, Basia brings to The CFO Centre extensive public sector experience at the most senior levels of government. Provincially, from January 2013 to March 2015, Basia was appointed as British Columbia’s first ever Auditor General for Local Government with a pan-provincial mandate to conduct performance audits at the municipal level. Prior to that, Basia held a number of senior positions in the federal government. She was Assistant Deputy Minister and Chief Financial Officer at Environment Canada, a billion-dollar organization, for seven years after holding the position of Assistant Comptroller General, Internal Audit, for the entire federal government. Her background also includes key leadership positions on major operational transformation initiatives such as Acting Deputy Assistant Commissioner, Customs involved in the creation of the Canada Border Services Agency and Director General, Corporate Planning, Governance and Balance Scorecard, for the then Canada Customs Revenue Agency.
Basia holds a Bachelor of Commerce degree from the University of Ottawa. She is a member of the Ontario Chartered Professional Accountants and has her Chartered Accountant designation, as well as her Chartered Director designation. Basia is currently involved with the Sprott School of Business, Carleton University, as an Executive-in-Residence.
