Doug’s passion is launching and growing businesses. Working with inspiring founders and CEOs, Doug makes his highest contribution to an enterprise operating in the role of Chief Financial Officer (CFO). As a Finance Executive (CPA, CA), Doug contributes directly to setting and achieving the enterprise mission, strategies & goals and business operations. His contribution has been developed and sharpened from occupying CFO roles in a number of industries including: pharmaceuticals (Novo Nordisk Canada Inc., Glaxowellcome Canada Inc.), consumer packaged goods, electronics and energy services (Westinghouse Canada Inc.).
Beyond responsibility for all aspects of finance, his span of control has covered operational functions including: supply chain management, information technology, business intelligence and business development. Operating as a member of the senior leadership team has enhanced his influence and impact on enterprise performance.
Doug creates and builds the mission for he and his team anchored in delivering value to the enterprise. Delivering ever higher outcomes versus performing activities is foundational to the value proposition and measure of performance. This has produced innovative value offerings in his last CFO role at Novo Nordisk such as: 8-year CAGR double digit sales and profits growth, a new distribution model, advanced analytics and business insights and the provision of lower cost, higher value business services.
Doug has honed skills in effectively representing the enterprise to shareholders, external stakeholders and authorities and internally with employees. Doug’s high integrity and strong ownership of functional responsibilities and overall enterprise results has served his CEO’s well as a trusted partner. The focus is in achieving enterprise goals and strategies. His strong bias towards offering value has enhanced collaboration and relationships with peers in the Senior Leadership team.
Extensive experience in multi-nationals has honed a global perspective and approach to initiatives. Since 2013, Doug’s contribution has broadened and deepened in working with small and medium sized enterprises, helping them in setting strategy, developing the business plan and organizing the business for financial success. Significant investment in personal development and network expansion has included: joining 2 Angel investing organizations, Life Sciences Ontario and the Hamilton Chamber of Commerce. He also has joined Haltech and Innovation Factory Regional Innovation Centres, providing mentoring to entrepreneurs.
