Paul Lohnes, Principal – Montreal
Paul Lohnes is a bilingual senior executive with over 35 years of leadership experience in financial and audit management. He has participated in the creation, growth and mergers of professional services organizations operating in Canada and internationally, developing and implementing strategic and operating plans and achieving objectives and KPIs, including increasing revenue and improving profitability. Throughout his career, Paul has contributed to the success of internal and external clients with integrity, professionalism and rigour, collaborating with CEOs and CFOs, government officials, boards of directors, audit committees and other stakeholders.
Most recently, Paul was chief executive of the Canadian Audit and Accountability Foundation, an NPO promoting and strengthening public sector performance auditing, oversight and accountability in Canada and developing nations.
Paul began his professional career with KPMG, where he was a partner for 12 years in Montreal and Amsterdam. He served CFOs and CEOs in SMEs, public companies, and the public sector, with clients in aviation, aerospace, biotechnology, distribution, education, financial services, manufacturing, local government, publishing and real estate. Following KPMG, Paul was interim CFO for a public company and then directed auditing standards for the Canadian Institute of Chartered Accountants, including being a technical advisor in international standard setting at the International Federation of Accountants. He was part of the executive team starting up the Canadian Public Accountability Board, Canada’s audit regulator. Paul led the national inspections of two Big 4 accounting firms and was responsible for inspection activity in Quebec.
Paul’s academic credentials include the Advanced Management Course (Mini MBA) from the McGill University Executive Institute and a Graduate Diploma in Public Accountancy and a Bachelor of Commerce from McGill University. He has been a CPA, CA since 1978.
