Robert Kunihiro – Principal, York Simcoe
Robert is a highly operational career CFO with extensive automotive tier one and industrial experience. Most recently he was with Yazaki North & Central America, based in Canton, Michigan, and ran the day to day operations and the revitalization program for a $5 billion sales / 85,000 employee supplier. Prior to that, he proactively guided and reorganized ABC Group Inc., a $1 billion sales / 40 year old family-owned automotive supplier through the 2008/2009 financial crisis. They subsequently executed non-core divestitures, entered into strategic joint ventures and eventually the company was successfully sold to private equity in 2016. Robert has also contributed to the Magna Group, Xenos Group and Pet Valu.
Robert is passionate about helping small and medium sized companies get to the next level in order to realize their full potential, monetize and de-risk or prepare for acquisition. He worked as VP Finance for Pet Valu Inc. during a period of tremendous growth from a regional player to become Canada’s largest pet specialty retail chain and a major presence in the Northwestern United States. They are a specialty retailer, franchisor and wholesale operation that was a true Canadian based start-up and success story.
Robert has served on a number of Boards including as Audit Committee Chair for the Canadian Automotive Suppliers Association (APMA) as well as several non-profit organizations. He has a Bachelor of Commerce from the University of Toronto, a Canadian CPA / CA and a U.S. CPA. He was also among 50 top business leaders selected annually to attend the Richard Ivey Quantum Shift Program at the University of Western Ontario.
